About Me
Hello, My name is Carolyn.
I finished school in 2016 to become a professional dog trainer, I studied animal behavior and modern techniques proven to be most effective in dog training. I personally had a dog that had severe behavioral problems. And all the trainers I took him to wanted me to drop him off. I wanted to learn what they knew so I could best help him. So I put myself through school. And opened Kurtz K9 in 2017 so I could teach others to help their dogs. So they can live their best lives.

We started out in a very small space in Fenton. Growing into a space 3 times the size now located in Ballwin near Manchester at Weidman rd to train out of. And I’ve hired 3 other highly skilled knowledgeable trainers to help us expand.

Denise Beggs2024-04-27We were desperate to find help for our 6-year-old Sheltie. His behavior had always been anxious, standoff-ish, and somewhat unpredictable. We had found no success with three other trainers. A neighbor then gave us an excellent referral to Kurtz K-9’s Dog Training. We immediately started private classes with the most awesome trainer, Kristen. It was an ideal situation because of Chase’s anxiety around other dogs in particular. From the beginning, Kristen showed us how to better understand Chase’s behavior and what he was showing through his actions. After many great classes and with Kristen’s guidance, the training techniques we learned finally taught “us” how to give Chase the best possible experiences. Through it all we saw Chase become a much happier dog. Plus, he learned a few tricks along the way! We are so grateful we connected with Kurtz K-9’s Dog Training and Kristen especially. We highly recommend their training classes at any stage in your dog’s life.

A M2024-03-06When I unexpectedly adopted a puppy, I began looking into training right away. After checking with a few facilities in the area, I decided to move forward with Kurtz K-9s for multiple reasons. First, I liked that all the classes were one on one vs a group setting. Second, I liked that they tailor the techniques to the dog vs a one size fits all because something I noticed with the others was that they use e-collars immediately with a "balanced" approach instead of understanding how each individual dog best learns/responds to the various methods of training. Finally, I found the pricing structure to be very reasonable. My puppy, Teddy, has come a long way, and he's gotten so many compliments, which makes me so proud. We've been able to impress many people with how well behaved he is for just a pup! With that said, what's most important is that the trainer is teaching you as well so you can put in the work with your dog. They give you the knowledge to perfect the skill and what you do with it is key.

I can't say enough about Ashlee she is awesome and has all the skills, patience and caring attitude. The biggest thing is they don't just teach the animal they teach the owner the skills to work with your pet as well. I can't say enough good about Kurtz's k9 and Ashlee! Thanks and we will be back to continue training.
Janice Hecht2023-12-02Ashlee quickly saw through what I believed to be my dog’s aggression toward other dogs. She saw anxiety and a lack of confidence around others. We now have lots of exercises that focus on building self confidence as well as the tools in our toolbox to manage future interactions with other dogs. We have had numerous opportunities to practice these strategies since completing the course, and we have seen great success! Many thanks to Ashlee, it’s wonderful to have my dog around others without concern.

Ashley was super sweet and knowledgable to get Monty going and Kristen was so professional and caring when working with Monty throughout his CGC prep. Kristen met us at Home Depot to train in a community/public setting which was super valuable. Monty learned basic manners and this really helped us with dog and people interactions.
